MarketU Privacy Policy

MarketU ("we", "us") operates a university-exclusive marketplace where verified students buy and sell with one another. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. By using MarketU you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Account: your university email, username, display name, and (optionally) a bio and profile photo.
• Listings, requests & messages: item titles, descriptions, prices, photos, requests you post for things you're looking for, and the messages you send to other students.
• What you offer (optional): services you can provide, whether you'd consider a sublease or roommate, and courses you can tutor with the grade you report. These are shown on your profile, visible to other students at your school, and used to notify you when someone requests something you offer. You can edit or remove them anytime in Settings, and turn off request notifications there too.
• Location: an approximate pickup coordinate you set on a listing, and (with your permission) your device location to power the "Nearby" browse feature. We do not track your location in the background.
• Device & usage: a push-notification token, basic diagnostic/crash data to keep the app reliable, and anonymous usage analytics (which screens and features are used — never the content of your messages) to help us improve MarketU.
• Payments (when enabled): purchases are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details; Stripe handles them under its own privacy policy.

How we use it

• To create your account and verify you're a student.
• To show your listings to other students and enable buying, selling, and messaging.
• To send notifications you've enabled (e.g., new messages).
• To keep the marketplace safe — reviewing reports and removing prohibited content or users.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that run the app on our behalf: Google Firebase (authentication, database, storage, messaging, crash reporting) and, when payments are enabled, Stripe (payment processing). Other students can see your public profile, listings, and the messages you send them.

Data retention & deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time in Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This removes your profile, listings, saved items, and sign-in credentials. Some information may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

Your choices

• Turn location and notifications on or off in iOS Settings.
• Edit or remove your profile details and listings in the app.

Children

MarketU is intended for university students and users age 17+. It is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be posted here with a new date.
